What happened to Project TXA on Twitter?
On June 17th, 2023, the Project TXA Twitter account was targeted by Elon Musk himself and banned.
The Incident and Immediate Response
Project TXA has a team of marketers who help us market our project – this practice is commonplace in the industry, and the majority of cryptocurrency projects employ this or similar strategies. Our marketers have access to TweetDeck, which allows them to post from our Twitter account while keeping a record of who is doing what.
On June 17th, one of our marketers replied to one of Musk’s tweets with a quote tweet of this tweet:
Apparently, Elon Musk decided that he had grown tired of cryptocurrency projects doing this – it's fairly common – and chose to make an example out of Project TXA by personally banning us from Twitter. It should be noted that this was without warning and we immediately deleted the tweet once he told us he did not like it.

The Appeal Process
When we attempted to appeal this ban, we received an automated reply in under one minute claiming that our appeal had been reviewed and denied.
These sorts of appeals can’t actually be reviewed in under a minute, so it’s obvious to us that someone has put us on an automated list that makes it impossible for a suspended account to appeal their suspension. Probably, this was done at the direction of Elon Musk himself.
Implications for Project TXA and the Cryptocurrency Industry
Project TXA has been a longstanding supporter of Twitter and has always endeavored to follow the Twitter rules as a model account. We see this ban as an unjust outcome and a disruption to our community outreach. However, we don’t view it as anything more than an inconvenience. Our work to create the hybrid decentralized exchange (hDEX) continues as we race towards a launch later this summer.
Our primary concern relates to the consequences for the cryptocurrency industry as a whole. If Twitter is going to allow Musk, or anyone else on their staff, to arbitrarily change the rules and ban accounts without a pathway for remediation or appeal, that does not bode well for the future of the platform. If they are wanting to make an example out of Project TXA, then we can only anticipate that other cryptocurrency projects will be targeted next. We’ve already seen indications that this is happening, with other projects receiving bans in the hours after Project TXA was targeted by Musk himself.
Future Plans for Project TXA
Obviously, we would like to get our Twitter account reinstated, and we will continue to attempt to appeal this decision. But we’re not too concerned about this in the grand scheme of things. After all, we’re building the hDEX protocol that will offer the safety and security of a DEX with the convenience and affordability of a CEX – as the saying goes, we have bigger fish to fry. We’re going to focus on building a better way to trade digital assets, and we’ll market our project on the platforms that make the most sense.
Final Thoughts and Speculations
We try not to get bogged down with this sort of thing, but the deliberate targeting of Project TXA makes us wonder if this is about something more than just a quote tweet that Elon didn’t like. After all, the protocol that we’re building will directly threaten the power that entrenched crypto institutions have on this industry. Was Project TXA targeted because we pose an existential threat to these crypto powerhouses? We know that we do, but maybe they’re becoming aware of it, too.
It’s hard to say. Hopefully, this isn’t an indication that Twitter is allowing the establishment to dictate their platform policies, but it certainly raises the question.
